Garnet Hill Ski Shop and Mountain Bike Center, Whitewater Challengers Rafting, Adirondack Rafting Outfitters and beautiful 13th Lake are all located in North River, as well as Garnet Mines Tours of Barton Mines Corporation, and Shaw's Mineral Shop. In North Creek visit the famous Gore Mountain Ski Center, the tourist train at the Upper Hudson River Railroad, and the North Creek Depot Museum. Tannery Pond Community Center exhibits the work of local artists, and hosts performances. In Newcomb, a 25 minute drive, explore the Visitor Interpretive Center, join a walk/talk with a naturalist, or climb the trail to the Goodnow Fire Tower for a grand view of the High Peaks. Whiteface Mountain Ski Center is a one hour drive. The nearby towns of Lake George and Saratoga Springs offer a range of activities all year long. In Blue Mountain Lake, a 45 minute scenic drive away, spend the day at the world-famous Adirondack Museum in its spectacular mountain/lake setting. Several golf courses are within a few minutes, as are casual and fine dining establishments. Dance the night away in the Verandah Room of the fabulous Sagamore Hotel in Bolton Landing on Lake George.
